We are excited to announce our partnership with San Jose State University to help students from their Childhood and Adolescent Development Department apply what they are learning to their activities as volunteer Role Models for 10 Books A Home. This partnership can bring some 500 budding young educators, psychologists, and social workers into the Role Model community every year!
SJSU students interested in careers in human development, early childhood education, childcare, and the social sciences in general will have a unique opportunity to encourage the healthy development of a preschooler within our Child-Parent Home Tutoring Program. Through 10BH’s Learner Centric Approach, students will influence children’s academic, language, and social growth while inspiring and modeling for parents how to develop their children’s school-readiness skills.
Here at 10BH, we are incredibly proud of the approach we’ve crafted. Our Child-Parent Home Tutoring Program has already resulted in children transitioning into kindergarten ahead of their peers, and has garnered widespread praise from various local agencies. San Jose State University joins the ranks of our committed community partners, such as Head Start, East Palo Alto Tennis and Tutoring, and Foothill College.
This partnership supports our strategic mission to ensure that at least 30% of students living in the Ravenswood School District in East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park have completed 10BH before they begin kindergarten. Our philosophy rests on the assumption that fundamental change flows from the home, into the community, and finally into the school system.
We look forward to a lasting partnership with San Jose State, which is expected to bring at least 100 new Learners into our program as we pilot the partnership over the next year. Please help me in welcoming SJSU’s students to our Role Model community!
