10BH was founded in the living room of my one bedroom apartment. 5 years later I’ll reclaim my living room. For me, this means finally having a bedroom AND a living loom. For 10BH, this means finally having a home of its own!
Just 2 miles away, still located in East Palo Alto, 10BH will reside in a pink house on 1238 Westminster Ave., open to its community and easily accessible to its volunteers. The house boasts 5 rooms, space for an 8,000 book library, a conference/training area, a staff lounge, a tomato garden, and plenty of parking.
The new space will give 10BH’s growing staff more than just elbow room at a foldable table in a living room. Actual desks and work space areas will occupy part of the home, there will be an activity room where Role Models can search for creative ways to spice up their lessons, and a front desk area with a Learner photo wall and a lesson map that welcomes visitors.
But, why stop there! 10BH will regularly engage its neighbors and community in BBQ & book giveaways, arts and crafts days, and will operate as a local hub for resources and networking among program participants, volunteers, and any parent interested in helping their child succeed. There will also be volunteer opportunities available to local youth to help 10BH upkeep its home.
With program enrollment pushing past 100 families and positioned to move beyond 200 in 2015, 10BH is stepping up its commitment to East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park. Our new headquarters will enable the steady growth of our Child-Parent Home Tutoring Program into the single largest early childhood education provider in our community over the coming years.
10BH is renovating its new home and will be open for business in January 2015. We welcome you to drop by to share in our coming of age.
