“Providing learner-centric one-on-one tutoring is an essential goal in preparing our Learners for kindergarten. But why stop there when we can build a community around learning and education as well?” said 10BH Founder and CEO Paul Thiebaut III. “We have regular meetings with families to encourage them to talk about their children’s education and offer them the opportunity to continue those conversations with other parents in their community. The idea is that this will create a tradition that will live on in parents’ conversations with teachers and parents as their children progress through our program, and eventually grade school.”
Every conference offers families the opportunity to participate in an enriching community event the following month. For our May family event, we teamed up with Bing Nursery School at Stanford University to offer tickets to a production of Charlotte’s Web. More than 250 tickets were requested by our families! In the coming months, we will offer a guided nature walk and a family picnic. In this way, we can encourage community and educational talk among enrolled and waitlisted families.
Nearly 100 Parent-Staff Conferences were conducted in April and yielded insightful parent feedback. From changes in habits at home, to advances in language development and preschool achievements, parents’ testimony is a yard stick for the success of 10BH’s Child-Parent Home Tutoring Program.
Here are what just a few parents had to say:
“She has learned English through 10BH and I'm very excited because at (pre)school they tell me she is the most advanced in the class. I am thankful for her (10BH) teacher because she teaches her something different every lesson.”
“When I first enrolled my son (in 10BH) he had speech therapy. They had done an IEP and his results in speech and academics were at 5%. After two years of therapy and one year of lessons with 10BH he has progressed and he is at 85%. He has learned how to express himself when he wants something and even though he cuts words out he is pushing through to speak more in English. I am really proud of him not giving up and willing to let go of his frustration when he cannot communicate with me. He will start transitional kindergarten this Fall and I can't wait to see how much I will be able to help him and knowing he will have another year of lessons (with 10BH) only gets me excited!”
“My daughter has progressed a lot and I cannot tell you how proud I am of her. Her teacher told me she's really advanced compared to her class. Her class is covering letters and sounds right now when she is already reading on her own. She knows her shapes, colors and number 1-50.”
“I really like that lessons have helped my son develop social skills. He is very social with people he meets for the first time now. His behavior has also changed. He is calmer and more patient when he wants something.”
“I cannot believe all the progress she has made in less than 2 years with 10BH. I am so excited because she got accepted to a top school for kindergarten. She was tested to see if she needed summer school to enter in the Fall, but it turns out she knew everything that was asked and there is no need for summer school. She is more than ready to start kindergarten and I am excited to continue to support her even though she won't have lessons after August.”
