10BH has been doing a lot (of positive stuff) during the first 100 days of 2017. Here are tidbits of what we've been up to!
We have admitted 56 families this year to the ILM Program (formerly, Child-Parent Home Tutoring Program). That equals 56 new lessons happening every week.
Our current enrollment is over 150 families, meaning we provide more than 150 lessons a week.
Our admissions goal for 2017 is 150 families (30% of incoming kindergarten students in our school district). We're more than 37% of the way there!

A preview of (some) of our impact
Learner Danny has autism and has been working with Founder & CEO Paul for 30 lessons (7 months). We are producing a coded video report that will show Danny's progress within a number of well researched domains of autistic development. You can see the changes yourself by watching a couple of the early and later lessons. Paul's Lessons with Danny.
Lessons with Learner Sol just began. She's a non-English speaker. Sol has had 3 lessons and already has begun occupying much of her free time learning based on what is done during lessons. See Sol's Lessons and what Sol's mom said about Sol's activities between lessons.
Our 2017 research study is underway
We recently added the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative to our list of supporters! They're funding a growth-based evaluation over the course of the next year that looks at how our Learners perform in many important kindergarten-readiness domains, including literacy, numeracy, English language, language, and executive function.
10BH talks at Paly High's Social Justice Symposium
Our Founder and CEO, Paul talked to Palo Alto High School students about how 10BH is addressing the #1 social justice issue of the century: learning. Great overview on the current developments of 10BH's program model. Watch the talk. (Reserve Paul to talk at your child's school!)
Our capacity is growing
We've expanded our program staff, created a development department, and developed a new department called Category. Our Program Director and her team are leading the way checking off our "East San Jose Site Launch Checklist". Our Development Director is raising the support needed to execute the many projects required to operate our East Palo Alto site and prepare to open our East San Jose site in 2018. And, our Founder & CEO is leading the development and execution of our program model design, strategic growth plans, and organizational identity.
Some program operations stuff
We now assign every family and volunteer Role Model to a "Program Specialist" who supports each group for the full two years each Learner is enrolled in 10BH. Families and volunteers have a much easier time rescheduling lessons, making travel plans, setting up substitute lessons, and planning for lessons working with a single specialist who knows everything about their Learner.
We now provide in-lesson "ILM Coaching" at regularly specified lessons over the course of the program. Our ILM Coaching helps volunteer Role Models and parents solidify and stay up to date on how to identify the Learner's intrinsic learning motivations (ILMs), cultivate their ILMs during the lesson, and plan the next lesson based on the Learner's ILMs. Our ILM Coaching is taking our impact to a whole new level as children are spending even more time learning for fun between lessons.
We've moved out of a spreadsheet oriented culture and into a robust CRM database to manage our volunteers and families. We've began developing a scheduling app, a digital inventory and checkout system, and an online community. We are building critical technology infrastructure needed for a program site to manage its own operations and for our national office (aka, the Lab) to manage and support multiple sites when we open our East San Jose site.

Help us spotlight "Intrinsic Learning Motivations" (ILMs)
We are the first organization to cultivate ILMs and aim to make this approach commonplace in communities and classrooms across the country. We are looking for speaking opportunities within Silicon Valley companies to show why ILMing is the future of education. Learn about what ILMs are, how some of the most successful people actually got to where they are by pursuing their ILMs (often unwittingly), and how ILMing enhances brain development and functioning. (see some new ILMers to 10BH below!).
