While many people may still think of working with 3- and 4-year olds as the business of preschool teachers, 10BH’s Role Models are quickly transforming the early childhood education space. This starts by filling homes with a love for learning that becomes cultural, and is followed by teaching children and parents how to cultivate the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the classroom.
In September, two 10BH Learners started preschool after being in our Child-Parent Home Tutoring Program between 3-6 months. Both Learners' teachers reported that they started preschool ahead of their peers. Many parents will tell you that with the help of 10BH they learned how to support early learning.
Role Model meetups offer Role Models the opportunity to share their successes and challenges with a group of volunteer-peers who have ups and downs all the time. Working with preschoolers is a funny business, especially on a one-on-one basis. Each child learns differently and has varying interests. So, to ensure children are developing school-readiness skills Role Models must keep their lessons full of creativity and enthusiasm.
Meetups will continue to unearth valuable lessons that Role Models can use to improve the quality of their lessons and interactions. With nearly 10 preschool classrooms worth of Learners enrolled, Role Models will continue to have plenty to share at our monthly gatherings.
